Green Bay council approves Zippin Pippin purchase

On Tuesday the Green Bay city council approved the purchase of the Zippin Pippin coaster. By a vote of 7-4 the council approved the purchase for the rights to the wooden coaster famous for being Elvis Presley’s favorite in the city of Memphis, TN.

Officials are hopeful the ride will debut in about 15 months. About $10 thousand will be paid for the name, history, and rights to the ride while the new materials and construction of the wooden coaster at Green Bay’s Beach Bay Amusement Park will bring the total project to about a $3 million price tag.

Texas Giant LogoTexas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas will have an all-steel track when it opens for the 2011 season. The hybrid wood-steel coaster also will be 10 feet taller and have a 79-degree drop, the steepest on a wooden coaster. The new track will give a smoother ride, and the track will have the ability to bank at 95 degrees, the steepest banking on a wooden coaster.

Captain EO returns to DisneyLand after 13 years of absence

Starting Tuesday, Michael Jackson’s “Captain EO” returns to DisneyLand. The film, which is 17 minutes long, will be replacing the “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” film in the Tomorrowland Theater.

The film ran from 1986 until 1997 in 3-D. The return of the movie featuring Jackson and Angelica Huston will have better sound thanks to enhancements made to the theater.
